Pete Chesson was a self-proclaimed “old-school grease monkey” and a true innovator, whether it was in business or sport.
The upstart’s bold ideas — titanium components on carriages?! — even affected the international sport of combined driving at the World Championship level.
But automobiles were Chesson’s first obsession, and he never lost his love for building them. Before it was renamed in his honor, Chesson avidly supported this event, and its beneficiary, LifeCamp.
The 1934 Ford “Woody” station wagon featured on this year’s event T-shirts and promotions is a Pete Chesson creation.
Chesson started building race cars in his early teens and never stopped. Transcending every form of racing he participated in — from Drag Racing to Dirt Modifieds to Go Karts to Motocross to World of Outlaws Sprint Cars — Pete Chesson left his mark.
Humble, confident, and with a lust for life, Chesson was ever curious. He enjoyed traveling the world to see what else was out there and often returned with new ideas or a newfound appreciation for something.
And when he got involved in something, there was nothing half-hearted about it. Chesson was all in.
